To the editor: We present here a case report of an adult with chronic rheumatic fever. This syndrome was first described in children by Taranta, Spagnuolo, and Feinstein (1) in 1962, but we have been unable to find any reference in the English medical literature to a case in adults.
The patient, a 46-year-old woman, suffered an attack of acute rheumatic fever 20 years ago with resulting valvular damage. During the last 3 years, she has been admitted three times to our hospital; the reason for admission and the cardiac findings on each occasion are summarized in Table 1.
