Drs. Cawley and Hayhoe have written a book that is a bit more than the usual atlas, despite their descriptive subtitle. The first two sections of the book are devoted to normal peripheral blood cells and marrow, the last three to leukemia and multiple myeloma. Electron micrographs of each cell type are preceeded by a short, carefully written text that describes the structure of the cell, with considerable emphasis on its histochemical characteristics. The ultrastructural changes that are associated with maturation are sequentially illustrated, and the legends are good guides to the figures. The pictures are labeled clearly, the bibliography
