In 1969 Dr. Nosé and his colleagues at the Cleveland Clinic presented Volume 1 of this manual. Entitled The Artificial Kidney, it was a pictorial review of the theory and practice of hemodialysis for medical staff and patients. The main features of the manual were its conceptual simplicity and its wealth of useful technical sketches. Now we have Volume 2 and, hopefully, will see more volumes in the future. The Oxygenator retains the simplicity of content and style of its predecessor and again contains many useful sketches. Technicians-in-training and young surgical residents will find this approach useful for their introduction
