We studied a case of giardiasis involving an otherwise healthy 44-year-old woman who had not traveled extensively. Epidemiologic investigation showed that the source of infection was water stored in an underground cistern. A survey of nine of the patient's relatives showed four additional individuals with giardiasis. The only common source of exposure was the contaminated cistern. This is the second documented report of waterborne spread of this disease.
