To the editor: I wish to point out that many individuals in the air pollution control field feel publication is synonomous with authenticity. I've reviewed the literature and am appalled at the poor quality experiments used to substantiate low episode criteria levels, justifying harsh abatement proceedings.
I believe Doctor Aronow's studies (Ann Intern Med 77:669-676, 1972) in carbon monoxide are grossly defective. His sampling is too small, or he would not have had 30% ST-segment depression in his first series of 10 subjects, with none in his second series of 10.
