To the editor: In the July 1974 issue, Lyle and co-workers attempted to estimate costs in a private internal medicine group practice. Simple calculations from Table 4 show that the average physician daily charges for hospital care are $12.70 per day (see below), not $10.00 as stated in the article. This amounts to an understatement by 21%.
There is an obvious lack of internal reproducibility of calculations. I cannot see how such inaccuracy can be condoned. The importance of this potentially valuable paper is tremendously lessened. I hope it is not used as an example of costs or in cost-benefit
