The chief target of Companion is the undergraduate medical student. How will it hit the student? Will it hit him at all? Will it be useful to the general internist or family physician? Does the book help the learner to move back and forth between principles and clinical situations?
One's first impression is that of sheer bulk, which may confine the reader to a location near a sturdy shelf! This third volume of a set designed "to provide a comprehensive work covering the whole medical curriculum" is in two parts, each over a thousand pages. The laudatory aim of introducing
