To the editor: A simple method of estimating creatinine clearance from the serum creatinine would be very useful in planning the dosage of certain drugs when renal function is impaired. Since urine collection in seriously ill patients is often impractical, a number of formulas have been proposed that are either cumbersome (1) or require the use of a computer (2).
Because a serum creatinine of 10 mg/100 ml in a patient weighing 50 kg represents a much more serious degree of renal failure than the same level of creatinine in a patient weighing 80 kg, an attempt was made to
