Dr. Dworken's presentation of the basic principles of digestive disease pathophysiology is succinct and understandable to medical students as well as to postgraduate students and practitioners. The latter will consider parts of the presentation too elementary; but these are easily skipped over, and there is much valuable information of interest to more advanced students as well. However, the primary thrust is towards the undergraduate student, and I highly recommend this book for its usefulness as a teaching guide. It is not claimed to be a comprehensive text of gastroenterology, but this does not detract from its value as an introduction
