Those attending this annual infectious disease course at the University of Iowa probably had a stimulating and instructive experience. Unfortunately, the presentation of the course in book form has resulted in a sketchy, haphazard text rather than a complete approach to the use of antibiotics and to infectious diseases. The physician who wants a practical text would be better advised to buy one of the new, more definitive textbooks in infectious diseases. There are some excellent individual sections in the book, such as the chapters on ocular infections and infectious diarrheas, but the overall quality of the 30 chapters is
