Written by the pioneer of fiberoptic bronchoscopy, the Atlas is a unique contribution to medical literature. Now published in English, it is far more than a bronchoscopist's "road map," as implied by its title. It is in two parts: a general section with a wide range of topics, and a section of case presentations.
The first section informatively reviews the development of fiberscopes and catalogs the instruments available at the time of publication. For the novice, there are details on the preparation of the patient and care and use of the instrument. The experienced bronchoscopist may be somewhat disappointed by
