Although there have been five edited texts in this area since the mid-1960s, rapid advances in connective tissue research certainly justify another monograph to help summarize the field and establish perspectives for those not directly involved. Although the editor of this new text states that "new and important findings . . . are elaborated comprehensively," the book falls far short of this goal.
This compilation of papers from members of the Japanese Society of Connective Tissue Researchers was completed in December 1973. Even so, the chapters on proline hydroxylation and mechanisms of collagen biosynthesis reference only 7 of 78 papers
