The co-authors of this book are leading health professionals and educators, but a better balance could have been struck, since 11 of the 16 contributors are doctors. Community medicine involves a team approach and, unfortunately, the team did not include a nurse. Also, an international dimension could have reflected the fact that community medicine draws much of its strength from international exchange.
Notably interesting chapters include those on occupational health and psychosocial factors in the genesis of disease. The best section by far is that on environmental and social factors. Health services research is covered in a provocative chapter.
