In addition to the discussions of the more traditional aspects of stroke such as natural history, pathology, examination and diagnosis, management of the acute stroke, pharmacologic measures, and physical and occupational therapy, several chapters deserve special mention. Not only are the current approaches to vascular surgery in stroke summarized, but also end-organ surgery to correct deformities, for example, is discussed. The chapter on nursing care emphasizes those aspects peculiar to transient ischemic attacks and ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes. Although some of the nursing care chapter repeats portions of other chapters, such is the nature and essence of the rehabilitation process.
