Notwithstanding the enticing title and the wide interest of the subject, this collection of papers is spotty and not at all comprehensive in its coverage. Thirty-seven papers are grouped under six headings, including anatomy, histopathology, physiology and pathophysiology of the vagus and gastrointestinal hormones, experimental research on the effects of parietal cell vagotomy on gastric secretion and mobility in animals and man, clinic of parietal cell vagotomy, and clinical results.
