A survey of principles, experiences, and conclusions in the cooperative program developed in a consortium of 10 hospital libraries in the Boston region, with reference to other New England consortia and support from the National Library of Medicine.
The growing specialization and complexity of medicine and the sharply rising costs of books and journals may force hospital libraries to develop new means if they are faced with greater needs from their staffs for service. The experience recorded here should spare some pains for those librarians and hospital administrators who seek new means along the lines worked out by this consortium.
