Duvernoy's monograph is a book in search of an audience.
The previously reported anatomical studies of cerebral veins have used a technique of injection of the
larger veins. Using an intra-arterial injection technique, the author has prepared 50 brains for study of the
venous system. He is able to illustrate a wide variation, primarily in the course of the large veins, while
noting that the smaller veins (which intimately follow the contours of the brain parenchyma) run a more uniform
