The diagnostic and therapeutic values of fiberoptic endoscopy have been emphasized recently by numerous authors. The actual principles and techniques of the many routine endoscopic procedures, however, have not received adequate and comprehensive attention in a text. To this end, Dr. Paul R. Salmon expertly directed his efforts. His manual contains a wealth of information for the gastrointestinal endoscopist.
A brief technical review of the physical principles of fiberoptics aptly introduces the text. The capabilities, as well as the limitations, of light- and image-transmitting fiber bundles relative to several basic principles are clearly presented. The ensuing three chapters graphically deal
