As a reference source for researchers devoted to cancer epidemiology and for practitioners engaged in cancer prevention and control activities, this atlas will be a valuable source of data. Its essence is the presentation of age-adjusted, site-specific cancer mortality rates among whites of both sexes in all counties in the contiguous United States. The format is twofold: first, color-keyed maps illustrate counties or state economic areas with relatively high, average, or low mortality rates; and second, tables give mortality rates distributed by deciles for counties or state economic areas. It is most informative to read the map and corresponding table
