We all recognize the importance of communication in medicine, particularly between countries with widely differing traditions and ideologies, yet few attempts have been made to increase Western physicians, understanding of Chinese medicine. As Editor of the American Journal of Chinese Medicine and as a respiratory physiologist of world renown, Dr. Kao was placed in a unique position to perform this task through an extended visit to the People's Republic.
