Because Dr. Davenport felt that his noted text, Physiology of the Digestive Tract, was probably too long and detailed for the needs of most medical students, he wrote a short introduction to gastrointestinal physiology, which he thought would be more appropriate for the needs of the beginning student. His concise book, which contains no references, is well organized, well balanced, very readable, and especially well illustrated.
