Far from being a manual, as might be suggested by its title, this book is a concise text of true cardiovascular emergencies. The 17 topics are discussed in considerable detail with respect to pathogenesis, yet aspects of practical management are also emphasized. Despite the collaboration of 18 authors, the editor has effectively imposed a uniform style of presentation. References to each chapter are generally well selected and comprehensive, supplemented by the extensive clinical experience of the contributing authorities.
With few exceptions the presentation of each topic is lucid and up-to-date. The chapter on tachyarrhythmias is repetitive in its initial discussion.
