A brief introduction covers the pathology of degenerative arthritis, biochemical and metabolic abnormalities, and current concepts of degeneration and repair in articular cartilage. There is a series of chapters devoted to the hip, another series on the knee, and a single closing chapter dealing with the foot and ankle. Currently acceptable surgical procedures directed at these three major areas are reviewed. Operative details are provided along with indications, contraindications, and complications. This book presents a one-sided approach to the management of degenerative arthritis; it omits entirely medical and conservative management. Despite this shortcoming this book should be of value to
