In recent years papers on research in depressive disorders have flooded into psychiatric journals. Biochemistry, genetics, sociology, anthropology, and clinical psychiatry dominate much of this literature. With the publication of this collection of papers edited by Anthony and Benedek, psychoanalytic thought is brought together with the other disciplines to provide a well-balanced review of depression from each point of view.
