No doubt, pain is one of the most important symptoms for which our patients seek immediate relief. In spite of pain's obvious importance, our knowledge of pain mechanisms, although increasing, is far from complete. Research in this field is moving very rapidly. Books that attempt to summarize the state of knowledge rapidly become obsolete. Hence, small volumes such as the present one are needed periodically to bring us up to date. The present book, published in a paperback edition, offers a multidisciplinary approach to pain with a strong emphasis on clinical and psychophysiologic aspects. The book is divided into 8
