Given the recent surge of interest in the nitrates, the timeliness of this book is unquestioned. Unfortunately much of its contents, from 7 contributors, has become already obsolete and inaccurate. In the past few years nitrates have been shown to be useful in heart failure and acute myocardial infarction, nitroglycerin is being used in the cardiac catheterization laboratory to assess left ventriclar function, and the absorption and efficacy of long acting nitrates have been demonstrated. Because most of these developments occurred after this book was written, almost none of these clinically important applications of the nitrates is discussed. On the
