Half of this survey is devoted to the differential diagnosis of treatable causes of renal failure, initial evaluation of the patient with renal insufficiency, and medical management of renal insufficiency. The remainder covers treatment of end-stage renal failure by peritoneal dialysis, hemodialysis, and renal transplantation. Each chapter lists selected references. Discussions of principles are logically organized, concise, and accurate. Clarity of presentation is the rule, although the discussion of dialysance might leave the novice with the impression that dialysance is independent of flow rates.
