Although its preface catalogues this book as a "language text (that) attempts to give the student facility in communicating his own knowledge to the patient and in understanding the patient's needs," it is more a phrasebook, with equivalents in Spanish. It might be considered a handy reference work to be used for learning medical terms in Spanish, primarily for self-teaching. From it the diligent student is more likely to be able to achieve an understanding of the Spanish spoken by the patient than to make him understand the medical personnel.
