To the editor: After publication of "Arrhythmias in the Mitral Valve Prolapse Syndrome" (Ann Intern Med 84:656-660, 1976) by DeMaria and co-workers, a colleague warned me that the echocardiography and stress testing laboratories should prepare for an avalanche of patients with suspected mitral valve prolapse syndrome. As our facilities often are already overused and the cost of medical care is of increasing concern to us all, I wish to comment on some possible implications of their study.
Arrhythmias are of particular interest in patients with this syndrome because palpitations are a quite frequent complaint and because sudden death has been
