PETER G. JUSTUS, M.D.; CRAIG S. KITCHENS, M.D.
To the editor: The patient described by Allegra, Woodward, and Chandler (Ann Intern Med 85:262-263, 1976) was recently in the southeastern United States.
He entered our emergency room on a weekend in February 1976, claiming to be a 42-year-old engineer with a Ph.D. working for a large international airline. His work had taken him to all corners of the earth. He claimed to have recently been in Nepal and Indochina where he contracted several exotic diseases including filariasis. During the last 3 months he admitted to being seen in hospitals in Washington, North Dakota, Maryland, Washington D.C., Virginia, and Florida.
