I am constantly amazed that a subject as intrinsically fascinating as sex so commonly becomes boring and monotonous when dealt with in literature, the arts, or scientific writing. Unfortunately, that is precisely what happens in this sizeable book, which, while generally accurate, manages for the most part to be both pedestrian and pedantic.
