Dr. Stunkard's account of his career and, particularly, of the evolution of his views on the place of psychotherapy in the treatment of obesity is for the layman, but it will also hold the interest of, and helpfully inform, the physician inexperienced in this field. He describes his early disenchantment with possibilities for psychoanalytically oriented research, his years with Harold Wolff, his long experience with psychotherapy of obese patients (extensive case narratives), and his present views on how to apply behavior therapy to obesity.
