Single authorship of a general textbook in hematology is a heroic undertaking. Intended as a "helpful reference for physicians in clinical practice," this modestly priced volume is only partially successful. Although well-indexed and broad in its approach to the disorders described, it is not sufficiently thorough to be considered more than a reference reminder or a bedside handbook.
The more frequently seen hematologic diseases are covered, with a primary emphasis on therapy. The text reads like a lecture transcript, touching various highlights of disease, as he attempts to cover the field. Unfortunately, however, the material is too often presented without
