"Brenner and Rector" has rapidly become an eponym, in nephrology, taking its place beside its distinguished aging antecedents "Strauss and Welt" and "Hamburger." This most recent two-volume contribution, the work of 88 contributors, encompasses the kidney more ambitiously than the present editions of the other two comprehensive texts in nephrology. There is about a 25% expansion in length as compared to the earlier standards, in large part related to the detailed reviews of renal physiology that comprise the first volume.
Volume I includes two subsections, "Elements of Normal Renal Function" and "Disturbances in Control of Body Fluid Volume and Composition."
