The number of texts covering various aspects of hereditary and nonhereditary malformation syndromes is beginning to grow. This addition occupies middle ground. It is not intended to be truly comprehensive but is a distillate of the authors' (together with eight contributors') experience with several selected patients with rare disorders. Both Bill Nyhan and Nadia Sakati are first-rate geneticist-clinicians.
For each syndrome there is a list of cardinal clinical features, followed in turn by a discursive survey of the clinical picture, differential diagnosis, an instructive case report, genetic aspects, and treatment. There are appended sections on "An Approach to the Child
