Dr. Valeri presents a coherent overview of the methods and advantages of cryopreservation and biochemical modification of stored human blood components. His book, which is extensively referenced (37 pages), draws heavily on many of the innovative procedures developed in the Naval Blood Research Laboratory, as well as other prominent regional centers. Descriptions of the various washing (deglycerolizing) procedures and the results peculiar to each technique are detailed and well presented. Topics of special interest include "rejuvenation" of human red cells and the preservation of platelets and granulocytes.
