The days of Virchow when one man could comprehend all the ramifications of his basic theory of pathology are gone. This book covering many of the facets of the recently recognized molecular basis of pathology has 52 contributors including the three editors. Few of the contributors come from pathology departments, and those of us with a vested interest in the future of academic pathology can take this as a further cause for concern.
