Diabetes mellitus has long been recognized as being familial but all postulated modes of inheritance have been rejected. During recent years a genetic heterogeneity has been suggested. A knowledge of modern genetics is necessary to understand the complexity of distinguishing clinically similar genetic types of a common disease. This book of 25 lectures from a workshop held in 1975 will help explain and establish the concept of genetic heterogeneity of diabetes mellitus.
