Enlarged with some noteworthy additions and a few unhappy deletions, Cowdry's The Care of the Geriatric Patient has been reissued in its fifth edition. In general, the current edition is of excellent quality and serves as an elegant memorial to Dr. Cowdry, who died in 1975.
The first of the book's five sections is devoted to medical geriatric issues; there are excellent chapters on cardiovascular disease, gastrointestinal disorders, cancer, and musculoskeletal disease.
