Since the definitive diagnosis of emphysema is made on an anatomic basis, it is appropriate that a text on the subject be founded on morphologic principles. Rather than a general summary of the subject, this book details the author's experience in the pathology of emphysema. It reads somewhat like a dissertation, with an introduction and methods section followed by chapters on epidemiology, parenchymal macroanatomy and microanatomy, nonrespiratory bronchioles, bronchi, heart, and pulmonary vasculature. The sections on nonrespiratory broncholes and pulmonary vasculature are interesting and detailed subjects not often given much attention.
