In contrast to our more eclectic preferences for monographs of the "Recent Advances" type, German pathologists are maintaining their tradition of reviewing whole fields in the "Handbuch" type of "teaching and reference texts," as the editors of this volume have subtitled their whole series. One cannot find fault with their intention of placing into the hands of clinicians as well as of pathologists volumes that will form a link between these two vast fields of knowledge, even if the emphasis in a textbook of special pathology has to be placed on the morbid-anatomical aspects.
