Prostaglandin research appears boundless and is possessed of alarming fecundity as reflected in its capacity to uncover a new species of prostaglandin every several months. The difficulties in assimilating and achieving a satisfactory synthesis of a field that is in the logarithmic phase of its growth are evident in this book, particularly in those chapters that draw on several disciplines. It is fitting that the first chapter is written by a chemist, W.P. Schneider, of The Upjohn Company, in view of the remarkable accomplishments of the organic chemists of this company whose work has made available large quantities of prostaglandins
