This is a beautiful picture book. It contains over 500 figures that portray a large variety of common and rare congenital malformations. Of particular interest are the photographs of malformations detected in early fetuses that were therapeutically aborted. These pictures graphically illustrate these malformations at or shortly after their formation and stimulate thought with regard to the mechanisms that may be involved. The color illustrations are especially striking. I had not realized how much better color photographs are for the portrayal of anatomical detail than are the conventional black and white pictures.
