This small, interesting book gives a concise, lucid and timely account of essential points about the chemistry of protein, polypeptide, and peptide hormones. An explanation of the chemistry of the larger protein hormones allows one to know and understand much more readily the basic physiological, biochemical, and clinical inter-relationships of growth hormone, prolactin and placental lactogen. The high degree of chemical homology between these three hormones, makes apparent why they have overlapping growth and lactogenic activity and that extra precautions are required in establishing specific radioimmunoassay and radioreceptor assays for their measurement. In addition, the logic and potential for developing
