Primary liver neoplasms are infrequent problems facing the western physician, and therefore firm guidelines for evaluation and therapy of these diseases are difficult to establish. The authors of this text have undertaken an enormous survey of the diagnosis, clinical assessment, and surgical management of liver tumors in this country during the years 1960 to 1974, and have supplemented their observations with extensive reviews of the world literature. The result is a well-organized, occasionally rambling, but very welcome treatise.
The opening chapters describe the study methods, and explore in an interesting, anecdotal manner the history of surgical approaches to liver tumors.
