The five chapters of this elaborately prepared, partial volume of an encyclopedic "Handbook" (defying the dictionary's definition of the English word as "a small guidebook or manual"), deal with 1) the structure, general physiology and pathophysiology of the lympatic cell system; 2) morphology, physiology, kinetics and function of granulocytopoiesis; 3) the monocyte-macrophage system; 4) the reticuloendothelial and reticulohistiocytic system and a short chapter on "physiologic variation of leukocyte number in customarily obtained blood samples," which seems somewhat out of place and must have been added as a "filler."
