"Martindale" is a staggeringly encyclopedic source of information on drugs and proprietary preparations too little known in the United States, a reference source for which there is no close American competitor. Most of its content is made up of detailed but short articles on classes of drugs and individual drugs, giving information on the pharmacopeial authority for drug names; alternative names, including chemical names; acceptance in non-British pharmacopeias; dosage; physical properties; toxic effects (with abstracts and bibliographic data on pertinent articles); precautions; absorption and fate; uses (also with abstracts and references); preparations; and non-British proprietary names.
