The highly charged field of coronary bypass surgery could be influenced by this book, but not the way its author intended. The primary thrust is to reform the contemporary standards of evaluation of new surgical procedures, and especially coronary bypass; however, widespread dedication to loose empirical standards makes any prompt change of behavior unlikely. Rather, this work might be most helpful as a casebook for educators of future physicians and non-physicians active in the health-policy arena.
The author begins with an excellent historical examination of coronary artery surgery, and then discusses the difficulties of evaluating a variety of topics including
