The spinal cord is located in the spinal canal, which is formed by the bony and cartilagenous structures of the vertebral column. Disease or structural derangement of the spinal column may lead to functional disturbance of the spinal cord or of the motor and sensory nerve roots attached to, or arising from, the spinal cord.
