To the editor: In the January 1977 issue Van Thiel and associates (1) reported on "A Syndrome of Immunoglobulin A Deficiency, Diabetes Mellitus, Malabsorption, and a Common HLA Haplotype." We wish to emphasize further a remarkable feature present in two of the three reported cases: Patient 12 was "on at least two occasions . . . hospitalized for a seizure disorder that may have been related to difficulties in managing her diabetes in the presence of malabsorption"; and Patient 17 had so-called idiopathic epilepsy.
